Overheating BenQ PB8263 DLP Projector

Dec 3, 2010 11:22AM PST

We've been using a BenQ PB8263 DLP Projector for two years. The projector bulb has approximately 2500 out of 3000 hours. We are now running into issues where the projector is shutting down due to a thermal issue. We removed the face plate and blew whatever dust was inside. The air filters have been routinely cleaned monthly. I've seen an article on line for a different projector which suggested replacing a thermosensor. How would one do that? Any thoughts on solving the thermal issue?

I found no service available for another make as well and we ended up replacing the unit. Similar life span!

I read elsewhere that it might be the bulb. In your experience did you go through the expense of changing the bulb before replacing the unit? I'm trying to decide if we should go that route or just go for the replacement.

Sorry, is the bulb that expensive?

Ours was under 30 bucks. How much is yours?

This is one of those older expensive projectors. Those do run very hot and require repairs every few years.

What I'm seeing today are folk that were not ready for this. They think items don't need repairs and are caught off guard as gear fails. For some reason they accept this for cars.

My fault here, I should have looked it up rather than compare it to our 1K buck units at the office.
