I am using a pair of $5 rabbit ears to recieve HD via my STB. I rcv all HD broadcasts with a 90% signal stregth. The closest tower to me is 15mi, the farthest is 25.
After years of hand-me-down tv's, I am considering an HDTV-intergrated set. I have narrowed my choices to 2 Sony models. As this will be a significant expense for me, I may not be able to afford satellite service right away.
AntennaWeb.org and CheckHD.com lists my zip code as not able to receive local HD broadcasts. Using another address less than a 1/4 mile away with a different zip code, I find that the 2nd address is able to pick up all local HD broadcasts. I know I receive some HD broadcast on my old analog set (top and bottom black bars, slight better pictures, etc), but just curious how HD reception is determine by zip codes. After looking at the compass headings of the broadcast source, distance (about 18 miles away), and relatively the same terrain, I thought I would be able to receive some local HD broadcasts.
