Hi christy.
I can't think of a case where, grammatically, I would not want a capital letter at the start of a new sentence.
If the previous sentence ends in a full stop, or if the sentence in question is the start of a new paragraph, then it is proper for a capital letter to be used. You can use the semi-colon; eg just now I used the semi-colon and continued with a letter with small case, and Word would accept that.
If you need to use small letters for visual purposes, eg where grammar is not the over-riding consideration, then I can only suggest turning off Auto-correct completely, or leaving it on and manually changing the letter back to small case once the word has been typed.

I have MS Word XP, and have configured it to auto-correct the initial lowercase letter of the first word in a sentence to a capital letter. However, I sometimes have no need for this auto-correct. How do I over-ride this function, beside going to the letter and reverse the auto-correction manually ? I would think the pressing of a combination of two keys, for example, would be the solution. What are they, if any ? Thanks.
