Outlook : leaving e-mails at the server....

Oct 15, 2005 1:23AM PDT

With Outlook Express, I can configure it to leave my e-mails at the server when I access them at work, then go home to access them again so that they are saved to my HD. Is it possible to do this with MS Outlook ? If so, how ? Thanks.

Thank you for the link.

Yes, I suppose I could have asked Google. No particular reason why I did not. I just chosed not to. It seemed a good question to ask/discuss, and I think a lot of people want to know too. Indeed, all questions asked at this forum could have been put to Google, and this forum could have ceased to exist. I know you do not like to hand out the fish, and you could have ignored the question, and let others have a go. You are very busy. May I ask why you did not ignore the question ?

As for not mentioning the version of Outlook, well- if there are different solutions for different versions, then the answer would have contained that fact, or stated that the solution is for such and such version. The question was asked as a ''General'' question.

I am sorry if I have stepped on your toes or got in your way - rest assured that it is not intentional. Smile !

Here's why I asked.

With each post is this passage to help us remember to give the full details.

Note: If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem.

I asked about google because many are just learning how to use it. Some were never shown what search engines can do.

-> What many learn is that forums may not be a place for fish but a place to learn to be more self supportive. There are a few that write in disgust at such an idea.

I am aware of the need to provide full relevant information. Sometimes, it is hard to know what is relevant and required. For my question, I was not asking about ''technical'' problems about my computer, so I did not think about providing my computer specifications. As I have mentioned earlier, my question was general in nature, and I did not think it was necessary to provide any more details. Sorry about that.

As the link I provided shows.

The answer varies with each version of Outlook. You may think it unfair that I don't provide the method for every version of Outlook Microsoft produced, but that link did show that.

I hope you found your answer and see why versions matter.

Re versions matter.

Bob,

I found the solution at the link you provided. Thanks for the fish. Yes, versions matter, but as I have mentioned before, I was asking it as a ''General'' guestion, and I was expecting a ''General'' solution, and if there are different solutions for different versions, then I would have gone to find that specific fish myself. A ''General'' solution might have looked something like this : '' Go to Tools - Accounts - Options. Look for Accounts properties-connecions--''. It is somewhere there. There may be different solutions for different versions. It should be quite similiar to Outlook Express.'' I would have known where to look.'' I did try to find it before asking, but was not able to, not realizing that an account have to be created first. Thanks again for the fish.
