Outlook holding email, and not showing email right away!

by krazypony / November 14, 2004 10:21 PM PST

Part (1): The problem is when you go to send email it sits in the outbox until you click on another folder such as Drafts, Sent Items... and then it shows the email has left the outbox at that time.

Part (2) : When trying to receive emails, it doesnt show the email in the inbox right away as it should, unless you click on another folder and then the new email notification will trigger or the email count in the inbox will trigger aswell, this happens irratically.

I have reinstalled Office 2000, I have performed a repair, I have removed the users profile in outlook, and reinstated it and still no change... and this is happening for others aswell as indicated.

The OS is WinXP SP1 and SP2, Office 2000 Standard

There's another bug in that if you close Outlook 2000 while it is receiving email, it may vanish from the taskbar but still be running. And will continue to receive email. You can't launch Outlook 2000 until you endtask it.

Microsoft never issued a firm fix for these issues so we must decide to live with it or move on.

Would possibly moving to a new Office Package resolve this problem, such as Office XP or Office 2003?

The only sure thing is that you can call it in and pressure them for a full refund if the issues were not resolved.

With Outlook 2000, it's been 4 years so how can we complain now?

In reply to: Possibly.

The thing is I have never seen this problem previosly with my trouble shooting with Outlook, but guess after 4 yrs we cant do anything but cry in a corner...

But sounds like a real lousy solution!

I've seen these issues since 2000.

So, for me, it's no surprise. The only reason I don't move off OL2000 is simple. What bugs there are are not fatal and it works in spite of these things.

It is possible that some OS change or updates or even SPYWARE has brought these bugs to your attention or caused them to show where they didn't before. For instance some versions of Zone Alarm cause Windows ME system retore points to never occur. That version will also trigger the OL2000 issue of not updating it's screen status about sent and so on. But you don't use Zone Alarm so another cause may be at play.

OL2000 and the issues I note do not care if you are on Exchange or in the Internet Email mode. It's just a bug in OL2000 that was never resolved. Why should it? Microsoft tells us a workaround and that was that.

I have the same issue. Now that you mention WinXP, those are the only systems that I'm getting reports on this issue. I'm going to try Outlook 2002 or better to see if it helps. Let y'all know

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
