Outlook Express Won't Open

Mar 13, 2005 10:04AM PST

I am running win-xp-he OS. My browser is Microsoft IE 6.0. My e-mail client is Outlook Express 6.0. Some teen age friends (??) downloaded a bunch of freeware which unfortunately came with a lot of spyware. I cleaned out the spyware with SpySweeper and Ad-Aware. Everything works fine now except my Outlook Express.I Get an Error Message: "Outlook Express has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I tried re-registering the URL Monitor by running REGSVR32 URLMON.DLL, but that did not help. I can run Xp in the Safe Mode and OE opens normally. I tried trouble shooting with MS Config, but could find no offending element. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Try IEFIX.

It does most of what is required without you having to do all that research and work.

Hint: use Google to find it and what it does.

Bod:

Please excuse my delay in thanking you for your response. Unfortunately, the kids downloaded over 200 Viruses (they had turned off my Norton AV)along with all that SpyWare. I ran a Norton Virus Scan, but it couldn't fix all the corrupted files. So I'm having to do a clean install - glad I have my important files backed up!

Best regards,
Ray
