Outlook Express very slow deleting messages

Jun 2, 2005 9:05AM PDT

I am experiencing a problem with Outlook Express. When I try to delete a message the program seems to lock up and after about 30-45 seconds it deletes the message but it clears and then repaints the inbox. I am using Windows XP Home edition. I have downloaded both SP1 and SP2.

I had done this before but I did it again and combined with the other suggestions it seems to be a little faster.

Possible solution

Other than spyware, try this.

Copy your entire outlook express folder to a mew location, then delete all the .dbx files (if you want you can just rename them by removing the x off then end of each one)

Open Outlook Express and see if the problem is gone, if so just import all the messages from the copied folder. They will all come back unless there is a damaged email or dbx folder, which will show what the problem was.

If your dbx folders are large (say over 500 megs each) it;s time to do some cleanup. OE was not designed to handle that large of a load.

OE corrupt?
Jun 2, 2005 9:50PM PDT

Such problems can transpire if the file ''Folders.dbx'' (the Indexer) is damaged or corrupt. To resolve the issue, rename or simply delete the Folders.dbx file for the impacted identity, and then start OE which rebuilds it
