outlook express problem

Feb 18, 2009 10:03AM PST

can't send out e-mails using OE. I'm gettig an error: The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was xxxxxxx@COMCAST.NET'. Subject '', Account: 'MAIL.COMCAST.NET', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.1.0 Authentication required', Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC78. What is this and, please, how do I fix it?

The problem started when comcast switched me to "smart zone" that IMHO is not very smart. i have called comcast, but they said that I have to live with the problem untill they'll fully implement "smart zone"

Authentication Required: Please Try This
Feb 18, 2009 12:08PM PST

Open Outlook Express, click on "Tools" in the upper left, choose "Accounts", then click on the "Mail" tab. When that opens, click once on your account to highlight it, then select the "Properties" button, then the "Servers" tab.. When that opens, place a CHECK mark in the box next to "My Server requires authentication" in the Outgoing mail section and UNCHECK the "Logon using Secure Password Authentication". Click on Apply, then OK.

Hope this helps.

you're a genius. it was very easy and simple and i could have tried to fix this problem till the day i would die and it still would be a problem. i suffered for 2 weeks instead of posting my question here. well, i've learned my lesson.

thanks a million times 10.
