Outlook express corrupts my outgoing attachments

Apr 4, 2005 5:02PM PDT

HELP PLEASE! I have office xp home, and outlook xprs 6 both fully updated. A couple of weeks ago I started having problems when sending a large file. recipients told me that the file i sent was corrupt. I scanned my computer for virus, adware etc.. found nothing, rebuilt the file, saved it as... etc... Today I started sending the emails to myself, and realized that the original files more than 1mb are reduced to less than 100k and if I send two attachments, only one arrives but corrupted. I appreciate any help as this is really burning my brains...

No it doesn't. This morning i also realized that it is cutting the attachment's size to 73kb, regardless of its original size.

A setting of interest in Outlook Express...
Apr 5, 2005 1:19AM PDT

"You can set Outlook Express to break large messages into multiple parts in a Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) account. For this to work, the recipient must have an e-mail client or some other software that is capable of correctly reassembling the message. To enable the setting to break large messages:
1. On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
2. Click your POP3 account under the Mail tab, and then click Properties.
3. Click the Advanced tab, and then set the Sending option to Break apart messages larger than <xx> KB, where <xx> is your ISP's attachment size limit."
- Microsoft.

setting OL Express
Apr 5, 2005 8:56AM PDT

Hi R., thanks for your help, I also checked those setting s and they are correct. I thought that maybe it could be a router thing... nope, then I tried using other pop accounts and voila!, the accounts that i have with yahoo small business aren't working, the others are. now the frustrating thing is that they don't give support for the pop, as they claim that it is a microsoft problem. I think that this is crazy as my other pop accounts hosted by different companies worked fine... definitively yahoo just lost a loyal customer (i have been using them since 98), guess for them is cheaper to save in tech support.

For now, the solution that I have is to move my account elsewhere. yes this sucks big time

While you may rant if you want, consider if it helps us find the issue. For me, it's chaff that I have to pick through to see if there is a new clue I can use to help out.

I hope you understand why I write this.

All solved
Apr 10, 2005 12:19PM PDT

Hey Bob,

Thanks for your help, in all fairness to Yahoo small business, I called them again. This time I talked to another tech supp rep who seemed to understand the problem I was describing to him. Actually he couldn't help me solve it, but he escalated to another tech department or something and they solved it. So actually it wasn't a problem with my OL express as the girl in tech support had initially told me.

All the best.

1. Squeky wheel gets the grease.
2. Persistances pays off if you keep at it.

Etc!
