Outlook Express can't delete mails

Oct 3, 2013 1:24AM PDT

OE will not let me delete inbox mails or move them to another folder. "an error has occurred" I have marked as read, tried file delete, all the normal buttons. Do i need a separate software to go in and force it? Can't even move them to another folder! Also compacted in case that might work.
thanks

There're plenty of alternatives
Oct 3, 2013 1:42AM PDT

You could use Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail, or Office Outlook as alternatives to OE. But since you're using OE, that means you're still on XP which is going to lose the last of it's support from MS come April. It's time to move to Windows 7 or 8.

That's a really old issue. Did you try prior solutions?

I actually had been there before and then in frustration found this blog. I hadn't compacted "ALL" the folders which i will do tomorrow and should do it. Makes sense now. I will check out Thunderbird too

If compacting doesn't work either, just delete the Deleted Items.dbx file from Windows Explorer. OE will make a new uncorrupted one when you start it.
