outlook express address book - cannot export

Hi,

I'm having problems exporting contact information from my Outlook Express address book. This is something I used to do regulary and now cannot, although now I'm using a different computer and Windows XP.

The sequence of events is as follows:
1 - open address book
2 - select "Other Address Book" from the side menu "Export" located in the drop down menu "File"
3 - from the Address Book Export Tool, select "Text File (Comma Separated Values)" and click "Export"
4 - type name of file and browse for export destination(desktop)and click "Next"
5 - select fields of data to export (name, company name, number, etc) and click "Finish"
6 - a message pops up saying "Error exporting the address book"

My specs are as follows:
Toshiba Satellite A25-S279
Window XP, Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 2
Pentium 4, 2.8GHz
480MB Ram
Outlook Express 6 (6.00.2900.2180)

Does anyone know what to do to export the address book from Outlook express as a text file?

Kind regards,

select "Other Address Book" from the side menu

When I export or save mine, I select Address Book (WAB). Have you tried that?

saving as *.wab works I need to save as a text file....

You can print your email address book contents

by opening the address book, select edit, then "select all", then go to "file", and select "print". Cumbersome, and it prints with spaces in between the name/address, but it works.

Figured it out from joehawk's post

Open the Address Book

File \ Show All Contents . . . from within this new window that opens . . .
File \ Export \ Other Address Book \ Text File (Comma Separated Values) \ Export
Save file anywhere: . . . Browse \ Desktop \ give it a name like ab (it will automatically add .csv) \ Save \ Next

Select the fields you wish to export:
Some fields do not have check marks, and others do.
I see that even though some have no check mark, it doesn't mean that no data there, wonder what's going on.

Without changing anything, if I click on Finish ... Address book export process has completed. \ Ok

If I go back and check all of the fields, and click on Finish ... Address book export process has completed. \ Ok

Try This

I had this same error. I have multiple email identities but all my contacts were stored in the Shared Contacts. Once I moved all the contents of the Shared Contacts to the identity I was currently using I was able to copy the address book to a jump drive as a text file. It seems to me that the default WAB format must copy all the entries for individual identities as well as the Shared Contacts contents. I personally never had a need for individual address books.
