Re:Outlook Express. What version?
Nov 25, 2003 6:08AM PST

A well known issue is that if one installs from the 98 CD and then copies in their old email files, OE will cough up a notice just like you posted. The older version OE can't digest the newer format email files.

Sometimes, upgrading the IE to the version you had last works.

The old remove IE/OE and reinstall hoop trick.
Nov 25, 2003 11:01AM PST

1. Download the IE version of your choice from http://browsers.evolt.org/
2. Run the IERadicator from http://www.litepc.com/ieradicator.html (poof!)
3. Install the IE from step 1, reboot, setup OE, retry.

In closing, you didn't write and we didn't ask if you installed an Antivirus. Be aware that some recent Norton versions seem to be misfiring for some.

No Bob I haven't installed anything except the operating system and my internet connector. I logged on to the internet with the thought I would download the updates. when I thought I would check my email that's when I got the error message. Now something else happened . I just went to the windows update sight and at the 33% point explorer announced it had a problem and would have to be restarted. Yet I can surf to any other site with no problem.

I tried the removal and the reinstall trick and still received the same error. I then reformatted for the 3rd time. This time I installed from the cd where as before I coppied the cab files to the hd and ran setup from the hd. Guess what this time outlook functions as it should. Case closed.
