Outlook Express

The message comes up, immediately after the email leaves the system.
ie: Press button send - taskbar indicates sending message - Error message appears as soon as taskbar clears.

Wayne's link to Microsoft ...
Mar 12, 2008 2:57AM PDT

applies to Outlook, not Outlook Express, so although the reason applies the "fix" doesn't.

You need to simply configure your Outlook Express EXACTLY in accordance with your ISP's instructions.

On the Properties for your email account look at the Advanced tab and place a check in the two places just beneath the SMTP and POP3 port numbers where it says "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)

On the Servers tab you will find a checkbox labeled "Logon using Secure Password Authentication". Also make sure there is a check in the checkbox beneath "Outgoing mail server" that is labeled "My server requires authentication".

Outlook Express Sends
Dec 16, 2009 3:54AM PST

Outlook Express will send a message from the out box but does not remove it from the outbox. A copy is left in the sent items... Then it will keep resending it(very embarrassing when I didn't know it did that) until I remove it manually. Any ideas..

OUTLOOK EXPRESS SENT FILE
Jun 5, 2011 8:00AM PDT

I have the same problem as Timothy except that my msgs do NOT necessarily go into the SENT file. Some do and that's fine and when that happens they also leave the Outbox.
But others do not - they get stuck in the Outbox and the recipients of the message end up with many duplicates still going out. Once I was notified by several people I learned to 'remove' the message from the Outbox manually and put it into the DRAFT folder. That stopped the sending. This has been going on for many months now and I have no answers from anywhere. Can anyone please help??? I have deleted a lot of messages from all folders so that's not it. I had suggestions that I had too many messages but I'm down to very few - under 100
and I'd had many more than that previously.

Are you sending to multiple recipients ?
Jun 5, 2011 9:27AM PDT

If so, an old bug (no fix!!) is that one bad address causes the send to send to some up to that bad address.

Frankly I think this is great to stem the flood of spam.

Are you sending to multiple recipients
Jun 5, 2011 4:35PM PDT

Bob, I have many people in my address book and am on e-mail all day long, some business, some personal, family etc. I have no way of knowing now what addresses I sent to the day it started. I have not really tried to figure out if there is a pattern as it would be too confusing. (ie) length of msg?, location of sender? if attchmt? so many variables. I did notice the other day tho that msgs going to California went right on thru while msgs going to my friend close by in Florida got hung up. But I can't rely on something like that because I've sent to Toronto and it gets hung up. And it's not consistent anyway. And it's nothing to do with whether the SENT file is too full. Tonight I sent out a msg. w/attachment to three people and I forgot to check it for several minutes and it sure enough got hung up which meant all three would get many duplicates. I came back in here later tonight and find this message from one of those: "A policy-violation was found in an Email message you sent. This Email scanner intercepted it and stopped the entire message reaching its destination. The policy-violation was reported to be: Message/partial MIME attachments blocked by policy Please contact your IT support personnel with any queries regarding this policy."
I've looked that up on Google and still mystified (I'm not too comp.literate) so can u tell me if that gives us any clue at all as to the problem I have? Is there a simple setting I can change or something to fix this Outlook Express mess?

Re: Outlook Express troubles

Try:
1. Delete all message in the Sent items folder (move them to another folder if you want to keep them).
2. From the menu: File>Compact>Compact all folders [that's regular maintenance]
Does this help?

OUTLOOK EXPRESS TROUBLES
Jun 7, 2011 1:49PM PDT

I have done as Kees suggested.
I responded last night that I tried to delete all the Sent file and move it to 'New Sent Folder' & it didn't work so I proceeded to do it in segments and got probably 70% moved to another folder which I'd set up last year called 'Nov.'10 Sent' and that was just for moving November's SENT messages. I never planned on using it again. After that 70% got moved I compacted the whole thing because the reminder popped up. I was about to close the terminal for the night and I happened to notice that it was compacting 'New Sent Folder'. Then my virus scan wanted to run so I let that happen and this morning I had to reboot to finish the scan. When I turned the computer back on I found that all the messages I'd moved last night from the SENT file were now in NEW SENT FOLDER and also in the 'Nov.'10 Sent' folder. I sent several messages to people today and all of them went thru the first time with no hang ups. Until tonight I sent one with an attachment and it got hung up. None of the others had attachments. (that can't mean anything since all these months I've had different types of msgs get hung up).
I have still to finish clearing out the Sent file as Kees suggested but would anyone know why 1. the Sent file won't transfer entirely 2. the msgs that did tx duplicated in separate folders 3. a big problem is that i can't put these messages permanently into another folder because the recipients name is removed and my name as SENDER replaces it. So every message in the new folder shows MY NAME therefore I can't locate any particular msg. I hope there is someone out there who can
especially answer that one! My computer man tells me his computer does not do that. Thanks.

Outlook Express Troubles
Jun 21, 2011 4:14PM PDT

This is replying to Kees' suggestion that I delete all messages in Sent folder and Compact in order to prevent duplicates going out to recipients. I have found that I did not have to totally do that. I went so far, deleted masses of msgs and don't recall that I compacted altho I usually do every so often, and the problem has corrected itself AND what's even better news is that the popup reminder to COMPACT no longer comes up!! (It was coming up every time I exited Outlook).
Now all my Sent messages go thru without getting hung up in the Outbox. Thank you, Kees for your suggestion.

I now have to go to the temporary Sent files I set up and get rid of some of those msgs and try to figure out why the same msg went into both of those files.
Somebody suggested I move the Sent msgs to another folder but that puts my name on all the msgs and not that of the recipient. So that's no good. How do I get the Sent msgs into a folder showing the recipient's name? If someone can answer that it will be appreciated. Thank you.
Tabatha.

"I have no way of knowing now what addresses I sent to"

It may clear it up but if you don't know if the addresses are good, the issue may reoccur. Again this is just one of those enduring and endearing bugs that will always be there.

Are you sending to multiple recipients?

I do recall the first duplicates went to my brother and my daughter-in-law. No problem with their addresses ever. So that wouldn't appear to be the problem. Thanks for the suggestion, however.

Outlook Express troubles - New
Jun 6, 2011 11:20AM PDT

Kees, this suggestion might make sense. I have not done this before. Tonight I have 'Selected All'
and hit Delete but a msg came up saying Error - cannot delete (something like that). So I am now
doing it in parts and it is working. I have a tremendous amt of msgs in my Sent file - I am sending a lot every day and just have not deleted before. It's business, and board work and photos etc. I don't want to lose what I've sent to some people and I've tried putting it in a completely different folder but then the name of the Recipient is no longer on the message and it only has MY name as sender. So that's no good as I would never be able to find anything. Any ideas on that problem???
I will hopefully be finished this deleting tomorrow and will compact as u suggest. By the way I do compact every other day or so because that message keeps coming up.

NOW I just got a phone call from a msg. recipient from today and she said she got about 300 duplicate emails of this one msg I sent last night. That was the forward which I'd got the message about
the MIME attchmt. I mentioned in my message above.
I'll get back with the results of my deletion and compaction.
