Hotmail wants you to pay for this service due to the ammounts of spam created using Outlook Express.

If you have had an account with them for a number of years, they still allow you to use Outlook Express to check your emails. The newer ones need to pay for this service.

Hope this helps

RE: Outlook Express and Hotmail

Hotmail disabled the use of POP 3/ SMTP quite a long time ago, stopping users from using Outlook Express with their Hotmail accounts.

If you really want to use Outlook Express with a free Email service provider, I would highly recommend GMAIL (from google). You have to be invited to open a free GMAIL account at http://gmail.google.com by another GMAIL user.

I have a GMAIL account, drop me a message and I will invite you to an account!

I hope this is of some use to you.
