Outlook Express

For some strange reason I cant delete any mail from the inbox matter what I click on. I have no viruses and have not added any new hardware/software. This probelem just started out of the blue...and no matter which E mail I choose to delete..... either nothing happens or a dialog box pops up and says " this message could not be deleted ' Any suggestions ?

Try a repair

Add/Remove Programs > highlight Microsoft Internet Explorer > click Add/Remove > select Repair > Next > OK.

Reboot when finished and test.

this is caused by Norton Anti Virus.

Always delete infected incoming email messages, never quarantine.

Try this:

Create another folder in OE called Inbox1 and put all the email messages you want to save in it, leaving the undeletable email in Inbox.

Close OE.

Now, search your system for a file called ''Inbox.dbx'' no quotes and delete it.

Now, search again for a file called ''Inbox1.dbx'' no quotes, and rename it to ''Inbox.dbx''

Restart OE...

You should now have only one Inbox folder with messages you wanted to save.

to delete the Inbox1 folder after reopening OE.

First confirm that the now new Inbox folder is OK, with the emails you saved.

Then delete the Inbox1 folder and then empty the Deleted Items folder.

I did exactly as you instructed......but the bottom line is still the same problem exists. I can't delete any inbox mail, either by clicking the red X on the tool bar or by dragging and dropping or highlighting and then right click on specific E mail. Also the same problem exists in the Sent items folder. I have also
uninstalled and re installed IE 6.0 with no improvement. and also never have quarantined any infected E mails....always deleted them on arrival.
I have done SFC with no problems noted. and scan disk and well as sys scan w/ NAV. and nothing found.

a full uninstall of OE through Add/Remove Programs.

Then make sure you can see all files and folders in Tools > Folder Options > View.

Do a full cleanup as explained here:

After that, reboot and try installing OE again.

The article [Q295965] states that when OE is started, some existing folders (Inbox, Sent, and so on) or personal subfolders may be missing and can be caused if the file "Folders.dbx" (the Indexer) is damaged or corrupted. To resolve this issue, rename or simply delete this file for the impacted identity, and then start OE which rebuilds it. Additional reading concerning the "Folders.dbx" file, [Q233264].

CAVEAT: The Folders.dbx file keeps track of Active News Group Subscriptions and the information is lost when the file is deleted. Again be advised, the file Folders.dbx is the file which categorizes and maintains the default mail Store (in OE, click Options, the Maintenance tab, click Store Folder, and then make a note of the path) and default OE files. If a certain file or folder is moved or copied into the mail Store in lieu of using the correct Import method, the Folders.dbx would not be aware of this change and therefore would not list it. When copying or moving files into a mail Store, delete the Folders.dbx file before OE is started.
