Sep 7, 2005 4:13AM PDT

I am using Office 2003 pro.

i tried to send a huge email that was refused by my server.

since then every time i start outlook it comes up normal for a second and the the buttons for - NEW - FORWARD - REPLY - and SEND are all greyed out.

and the worst thing is that now also the OPTIONS tab and CUSTOMISE are no longer an option in the TOOLS menu??
any help is greatly appreciated.

I am running XP with MCE

Don't know why Outlook does this.

But you might try a System Restore, if you've got a suitable restore point. A second thing to try would be uninstall and reinstall Outlook from the Office CD.
Both are wild guesses.

Or ...

possibly Outlook somehow was switched to Offline mode (should be in the status line). It makes sense that those buttons aren't available then - but it doesn't make sense that the Options don't work any more.
You don't tell what server: Exchange (at work) or pop3 (at your ISP). And the recovery procedure might depend on that. If you can't find it in the Help or on Google (most result of Outlook offline are about offline folders, but some about connections) contact the helpdesk or the system manager at work or your ISP.

And finally it seems possible that the server somehow put you on it's blacklist for bad behavior, so refuses connection. That should be reset by the owner of the server.

Again: wild guesses.
