Outlook buttons dissapear

Wierd problem with my Outlook2003 - my Taskbar buttons keep on dissapearing!... I can still select them from the little 'extra buttons' arrow down the far right, and they will appear for a while only to be replaced if I select any other!....

It seems like some of the dialogs like 'find a contact' have maximized themselves and fill the entire taskbar, thus displacing the other icons...

When I 'customize' the bar, the layouts goes back to normal for a moment, but the buttons just dissapear again when I leave this mode.

Any idea how to fix this?
