Outlook Address Book Transfer

Mar 24, 2005 3:29AM PST

A few days ago I had a new "C" drive installed. The old one became "E." After a clean XPHome install on the new drive, and a clean OfficeXP (Students/Teachers) in the new drive, I now have to move my .wab address book to the new Outlook.

I have moved both the .wab AND the .wab~ files to the C drive; they are called "address book" and are several alphabetical places above the current Outlook in Explorer.

First off, can I print the contents, just in case?

Next, can I simply "drag/drop" the address folder (containing both .wab and .wab~) to the Outlook folder and expect the addresses to materialize where they belong?

I have tried "import" using a diskette; after that, I tried to open the "to" book on Outlook and got the following: "The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with it could not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or you do not have permissions..."

Yes, I can re-enter all 450 addresses (sigh...) but if I don't have to...!!

THANKS!!! for any help.

Outlook Address Book
Mar 24, 2005 4:32AM PST

Ninenot,

I really wonder if the wab-file is Outlook 2003 address book. I associate it with Outlook Express. I think all Outlook info is stored in it's pst-file.

The best to do, in my opinion, use File>Export from the old Outlook, then File>Import from the new one, using any folder on any harddisk as storage in between, or use the Outlook backup tool. More on Outlook backup and restore in

Anything else than using the official procedures is at your own risk.

Kees
Hope this helps

Thanks for the references to the MS documentation. Perhaps it will work--otherwise, I'll send MS a letter suggesting that they create a "print Outlook addresses" button someplace."

If addresses are
Mar 24, 2005 7:35AM PST

If the addresses are on the webserver, It may be possible to open address book,

click on tools,

syncronize now.

If that didn't work and this is for a business, you may be able to have tech support provide these addresses for you.

Thanks for your response. No webserver, and I AM the Administrator by default. Didn't take the classes, however....

Best,
