Outlook 2007 fail to send/recieve

Nov 3, 2010 12:32PM PDT

When either forcing to or automatically upon startup, Outlook will not update with any new messages from a Windows Live account. Live messenger says that there are new messages coming in, and I can go and the website and read them.

More specifically, when I force it to send/receive, it comes up for a second or two and just goes away.

System:

Asus A8N-VM CSM Motherboard
Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit RTM
Office 2007 Service Pack 2
Windows Live Hotmail Connector 2011

This is a completely fresh install, I just redid the installation on Monday or Tuesday. Everything is up to date.

Thanks,
Colin

I just entered the things I needed to into the Outlook Connector that came with Windows Live Essentials.

Thanks for the help. I got it to work by doing some work down in the registry, as per a microsoft support article. Once again, thank you.

in the same situation if you told what support article did help you.

And let me note you did it yourself. I didn't contribute in any way. So no need for a thanks.

Good job.

I didn't know this issue.

But may I remark that the support article is from 2007. Just this last month Microsoft used Windows Update to force a complete new (2011) version of Windows Live Essentials (including the Outlook connector) as a high-priority update to a lot of unsuspecting users.

So a possible scenario now is:
- you installed the original Outlook 2007, which set this registry value wrong
- you upgraded to SP2 via Windows update (which of course doesn't update the registry)
- you installed the 2011 version of connector (which of course didn't update it either)
In fact, it never worked. But you only noticed after two big updates. That's difficult to diagnose, especially so short after the last one and if you didn't tell the history.

This is not to critisize you. Just showing some things are inherently difficult.
