Outlook 2007 Clipboard Slow down

Apr 16, 2010 10:14AM PDT

Running Windows 7 32bit with 4GB of RAM with Office 2007. In the last couple weeks my clipboard action in Outlook is very slow. Running Exchange 2007 and Outlook is in cached mode. After I right click-copy some text it can take 5-10 seconds of the spinning circle to save and about the same to paste. I've tried to repair the install, run the Office diagnostics and disabled all add-ins. Any ideas....this is driving me crazy. Thanks.

Has antivirus companies adding scanning to clipboard content and actions. You can uninstall that for a short test and then reinstall your antivirus after.

Good luck!

Tried it

Yeah I tried that. Was running MSE so I uninstalled that and tested. No luck. I then installed Symantec Endpoint back in, which I had originally. Did a complete scan with Malwarebytes as well. Sad

While I wonder why 32 bit on a 4GB machine (the office here is in full speed ahead to all 64 bit as it's all good here.) The only other though is temp files (see CCLEANER) and looking deeper at HIJACKTHIS logs to see if anything you don't know about is on your machine. Again this is all your work and your machine. You must know what each item is.

Cleaned

I had already cleaned the temp files out. I'll try hijackthis. I'm running 32 bit because at the time I installed it I was warned by a couple of our software vendors that their apps might not run right. Since then they have cleared them so my next machine will be 64 bit.

I did run a scan and nothing glaring that sticks out. I have a sneaking suspicion that the culprit is HP Protect tools. i disables the privacy add-in but I've had issues in the past with it.

Copy & paste in Office 2007 SLOW & typing anywhere SLOW!
Jul 19, 2010 9:14AM PDT

I am having this same problem on Windows 7, 4GB RAM, 300MHZ processor, 300GB hard drive. It takes 15-20 seconds to paste within Office 2007, including Outlook 2007. Typing on the Web is painfully slow...there is a delay. I have tried different workstations with different anit-virus software and still have the same problem. I did not notice this when Windows 7 was first released. I wonder if a patch or Microsoft update caused it? I copy and paste A LOT and type A LOT and this is seriously slowing me down. You are not alone.

Are you sure about that 300MHz processor?

What many discover is the single core older CPUs are best left with the older OSes.

300MHz Processor is actually 3.40GHz - Sorry, my mistake!
Jul 20, 2010 7:57AM PDT

Hi, Bob. Thanks for the reply!

The 3.40GHz workstation has a new 300GB hard drive with no specific Dell software installed. It's a Dell GX620. 4GB RAM.

I currently have this issue on 3 Dell workstations with Windows 7 & Office 2007. I tried different anti-virus applications on each workstation. I am thinking it's the video card. I am assuming that Windows 7 performs better with a better video card. I disabled ALL visual effects.

On all 3 of these workstations, I am getting 3.2 or around there for Video in the Windows Experience Index. The video and gaming graphics always score low. All other scores are 4+ or 5+. I had Vista installed on one of these workstations in the past and did NOT have these issues, but the video card always showed a low score.

I stopped Remote Differential Compression in Windows features. I turned off indexing completely. I tried running Word and Outlook in Compatibility mode - That didn't work, so I reversed it.

In addition to the copy and paste delay, my typing is VERY delayed in Internet Explorer and sometimes Outlook 2007. I use a Web-based CRM all day (salesforce), so this has become terribly irritating and I cannot get my work done.

I use so much software that I don't even know where to start uninstalling and testing. I guess I should image one of my Dells with a fresh install of Windows 7 and install Office 2007 ONLY and NO other software and see if this issue exists. I have wasted days troubleshooting this.

I find it interesting that this is happening on Dells, but I don't think that is related as others have the same issue with HPs.

Any other ideas?

What do you think about my video card assumption?

Thanks!

Try the video driver.

I did updated the video driver yesterday and it did update. But, there has been no change in my problems. Another thing that has become terribly slow is using Gmail - no matter which browser.

Thanks!

I had the same problem for the last few weeks and read this thread today looking for help. Updating my video driver did not solve it. But when I went into Control Panel-System Configuration-Startup tab, shut off a number of applications being automatically loaded at startup but not needed at that point, and then rebooted THE ERROR WENT AWAY. It's gone from Excel, Outlook, and Word. I think I'm free!
I shut off all Adobe apps (i.e., Acrobat, Reader, Photoshop) along with Amazon Unbox Video, iTunes, QuickTime, Java Platform, and a couple from HP. These apps will still work when I need them, they just won't be launched at Startup. I'm not certain which one was the offender but I'm guessing it was an Adobe app. Hope that helps someone else out there.

Try OutlookSlim
Aug 21, 2010 3:01PM PDT

Maybe there are too many mails in your Outlook mailbox.
You can try OutlookSlim to remove duplicate mails and speedup search speed.

http://rxwave.blogspot.com
OutlookSlim is a smart and easy to use tool which can find and remove duplicates of the same conversation topic mails.
It will check your mail box and move duplicates to deleted mails so as to keep just one copy for each mail conversation topic. About 1/5 to 1/3 of your mails will be removed for the first time depends on how many mails in the same topic.

Slow copy and paste with Office & Windows 7
Aug 22, 2010 2:27AM PDT

All, I have done extensive testing, wiped away hard drives and started fresh. I can only re-produce this issue with Windows 7, using Office 2007 and Office 2010 running Outlook 2007. I do NOT think it's related to my toolbars, anti-virus or anything of that sort. I think it's a bug in the clipboard with Windows 7. I had installed Office 2010, with Outlook 2007 on a Windows 7 box at one time and it had issues with copy and paste as well.

I've taken one of my boxes, put Windows XP on it with Office 2007 and connected to my Exchange server - NO problems with copy and paste! Go to Windows 7 and you have copy and paste issues!

It's got to be an issue with Windows 7. Others at my IT company have noticed it and no one has found resolution yet either. Come on Microsoft! Happy

Did you read reply 12?

I'm finding that running a lot of titles can still cause issues like this. Norton doesn't win any points here either.

And your comment about Microsoft is interesting since they don't supply the PC, or author all the apps we load onto our systems. Maybe we need a Microsoft PC and apps so the entire package can be tested? (Like an Apple)

This fixed it for me
Sep 6, 2010 1:20AM PDT

Last month I left a posting (see #12) describing how I eliminated this problem from my computer. Just wanted to let you know that it's never come back. I'm still free from the "clipboard slow down".
I went into Control Panel-System Configuration-Startup tab, shut off a number of applications being automatically loaded at startup but not needed at that point, and then rebooted. The error went away. I'm not certain which one was the offender but I still suspect it was an Adobe conflict. I'd be interested to hear if this works for you too.
