Question

Outlook 2003 Auto Complete Not Transferring

Apr 5, 2016 5:15AM PDT

Hi,

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and I'm using IE11. For some reason, the auto complete in Outlook 2003 works, but when I click on it to transfer it to the address bar nothing happens and I'm left with the one letter I typed into the address bar.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Didn't Work for Me
Apr 5, 2016 6:03AM PDT

Hi Kees,

I Googled and tried that solution prior to visiting Cnet. It didn't work. Auto complete works fine, but it doesn't transfer into the address bar. I also tried numerous other Google solutions prior but they didn't work either. I also searched this forum prior but found nothing pertinent to my problem.

Thanks anyway.

Answer
I recall a needed patch for OL2003.
Apr 5, 2016 7:29AM PDT

Let me check my notes here.

Is Office2003 SP3 KB923618 installed?

I'm not writing this is the fix but here OL2003 had issues if I skipped installing the patches.

Service Pack Not the Solution

I just installed the Office2003 SP3 KB923618 but it didn't resolve the issue.

Thanks for trying.

There are other patches.

I have that one in my notes because OL2003 (the one I have is the original without any service packs) needed it.

There are other fixes from Microsoft so research the others. I will have to see if a guinea pig W10 machine is available so I can try this out from a fresh machine.

Remember I won't be able to duplicate your setup. Some folk install security suites that break functionality. I'm going to use a bog standard W10 with Windows Defender. BBL

I pulled up OL2003 with SP3 and autocomplete in OL2003 works here.

What is this about IE11? Can you share with me how to create the issue?

PS. This is a PC that was upgraded to W10 then I installed Office 2003 and that has OL2003 then I applied the Service Pack for Office 2003, etc.

Some helpful information

"PS. This is a PC that was upgraded to W10 then I installed Office 2003 and that has OL2003 then I applied the Service Pack for Office 2003, etc."

I did the same. I upgraded from W7 to W10 but hated Microsoft Edge. So I installed Classic Shell which enables me to run IE11. I managed to sort out a number of bugs, but then this bug appeared. One bug I sorted was links in emails took me to my home page. This bug has returned and I can't recall how I solved it, grrr. And just today I received 38 "Apache" emails, whatever they are, and they're still arriving in dribs and drabs. I'm thinking of upgrading Microsoft Office in the hope that this might solve all my problems.

If you are familiar with any of these issues I'd appreciate your further assistance.

Cheers

I skipped on the Classic Shell item.

I can run IE11 without Classic Shell. It's just a shortcut I put on the bar.

-> But "autocomplete" to me is just that. I'm reading that your issue is that a hyperlink in OL2003 is not taking you to that link.

OK, In the control panel, System, Default app, is the Browser set to Internet Explorer?
Is the email set to Microsoft Office Outlook?

If you get the Locate Link Browser, use this discussion to solve that.

Office Reinstall Partially Solves Problems
Apr 7, 2016 6:37AM PDT

I remembered how I solved that email "link" problem - that always sent me to my home page - so I uninstalled then reinstalled Office 2003 and the problem has been resolved.

But the original Outlook "autofill" problem persists. I've also discovered that autofill only brings up addresses for two letters, m and p. However, as said at the top of this page, clicking on them does nothing.

Thanks for you help. I'll keep surfing the net and if I find the solution, I'll let you know.

Autofill is one thing, Autocomplete is another.
