Outlook 2002 Rules Help

Jun 26, 2004 5:59AM PDT

I am having a problem with Outlook 2002. I am downloading messages from Yahoo to my outlook and most of my spam messages are marked with [Bulk] in their subject heading. I setup my outlook rule so I can move these to my trash folder when they arrive. However, it seems that every time I start my outlook after rebooting, I need to run this rule manually to move these messages to trash. Is there a way to start rules automatically when I start Outlook? Please let me know.

The key here is that you are downloading messages and not retrieving such with Outlook's mail retrieval from a POP3 site. The rules may not "fire."

My bet is that you'll have to manually run the rules.

Yes, but if I keep the outlook open, rules are being applied correctly to every email messages retrieved from Yahoo. Only when I have to start up the outlook that I need to manually run the rules.

It's got bugs.

Just FYI, you may want to take some solace that Outlook is not bug free. If this bothers you, then you have to just ask for a refund on the product.

Before you come down from the ceiling, you also may need PATCHES such as noted at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=820722 and other articles in order to have hope that it works. I didn't note this item because the outlook on your issue changed with your new information.

Read http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;291633 as well since it notes some other limitations.

Describe the rule.

One of the first things the wizard asks is when to run the rule. Did you tell it to do so on arrival?

Well actually, the problem was solved after I installed Office updates. Thanks for everything;

p.s. Yes I did say to execute the rules afte arrival, although I did not see a lot of other choices.
