Outlook 2000 not even trying to send email

Jun 3, 2005 9:47AM PDT

Hello,

I've got a wierd problem with outlook 2000 running SR1 with all the newest updates installed.

Problem: Outlook isn't even attempting to send email, no errors. When i click send & recieve it does tasks 1 of 1, which is just recieving mail. When I try just using the Send option, the progress dialog pops up saying 0 of 0 tasks completed succesfully and closes. Once again it returns no error messages, but the email is still in the outbox and the recipient never gets it.

Steps I've taken: Repaired the instalation using the Office CD, rebooted, checked all settings, removed and resetup the account, ran 3 different spyware scans (spybot, adaware, MS scan) and 2 virus scans (trendmicro, symantec). The scans did return both virii and spyware which I have succesfully removed and subsequent scans are clean.

Odd stuff: Outlook was working fine while I was troubleshooting an authentication problem it was having, it was attemting to send. I resolved the suthentication problem the user was having by rebuiling their account on our SMTP server, however the client (Outlook) just stopped even attempting to send, however Outlook Express and Thunderbird both work fine

Any ideas or tips?

also, I forgot to mention, there is no firewall installed and I've tried it with Symantec Anti Viruse's email scanning disabled.

I had items in the outbox and had to open them, then click send for them to send.

Odd. I didn't look again why this is so at support.microsoft.com
