Outlook 2000 Crashing

by jlittle / November 8, 2004 6:47 AM PST

Our office currently uses Outlook 2000 and lately, I receive the error "outlook.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows". I have gone to the knowledge base (Microsoft) and have done what they suggest. Creating new pst and profiles... We have 1700 so I import from on old file. I believe we may have corrupt file in the contacts. Does anyone know how to find this corrupt file or any suggestions?

Thanks,

NEDC

I'd call your office IT staff and get them to deal with it.

For now, try running...

OUTLOOK /SAFE

There's a space after Outlook in that command. It runs Outlook without extenstions and may thwart SPYWARE or other ruining your day.

Jlittle,

Have you tried installing a newer version of Outlook, say Outlook XP/2002 over the top of the previous version? No guarantees, but the settings and messages should be saved when doing so. If nothing else, you could then import the backed up files to the new version.

Hope this helps.

Grif,

I thought about this. The only problem I saw was that if I import the contacts, I'll still have the "corrupt file". Couldn't hurt to try and it beats entering 1700 contacts.

This helps - thanks!

Maureen
