Jul 22, 2007 12:10AM PDT

Just purchased a new computer. Loaded with Vista and Windows mail. I had archived (saved) all my dbx files for express from my different email accounts so i can reload them. My Outlook Express 6.0 was software bundles from different computers withs xp os's. Is there a way to take outlook express of those Load CD's to put on my Vista computer? Is it legal??? Dont want to get anyone in trouble. I just want to have my OE 6 back...Thanx

Doubtful

Windows Mail is the successor to Outlook Express, which was a security nightmare and a spammer's dream come true anyway.

There are dozens, if not hundreds, of email programs out there to choose from, so why not pick one of those instead? I'd recommend Mozilla Thunderbird since it has a number of anti-spam tools, but try a bunch of them and pick the one you like best. Just avoid anything from Microsoft as a general rule for helping reduce spam and security risks.

Sorry, but you can't...

Outlook Express was part of the Windows XP operating system, just as Windows Mail, OE's replacement, is tied into Windows Vista. You can't 'transfer' the e-mail client over, so you have to either import into Windows Mail or look to another e-mail client, be it Windows Live Mail (beta), Windows Mail's heir apparent, or Mozilla Thunderbird.

Sorry.
