I'm sure you can find a retail copy of both Windows 98 and Office 97 on eBay. If it isn't used any more on the computer that used it originally, I think you can legally transfer the license (not for OEM copies).

I have a Windows 98 era laptop. I also have pirated software- Windows 98SE, and MS Word 97 Professional, bought in Hong Kong... So I break the law and install these unto that computer, which is intended for private use. I am happy with it. I do not need any support. When THEY finally catch me, will I be able to plead successfully that these softwares are out of date; that they are no longer supported; that even if I want to purchase the legal copies, I won't be able to; that I have the right not to use the current versions (Vista and Office 2007), and that MS is not losing anyhing ? Or will I be forced to upgrade-which my old laptop may not support ? Or - I can legelly go ahead and enjoy using my old laptop ? Thanks.
