out of memory error

Jul 1, 2004 9:51PM PDT

I have a 2.8 gHz P4 with a gig of RAM. But I often get an "out of memory" error while running WordPerfect Office 11. Nothing else is running at the time (other than general background stuff) but there may be several documents open at once. No other software -- Photoshop, Word, Dreamweaver, anything -- triggers this error. It's an academic version of the suite, so there is no help available from Corel. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: out of memory error, but what OS?

It's part of what the forum would need to know to help.

If you are using a DOS BASED OS such as Windows 95/98 or ME, read Optimizing Windows at http://www.aumha.org/articles.htm

Also, try it with just 512MB of RAM.

Sorry -- XP Pro . . . but why pull a memory card? Are you suggesting that one might be bad? Thanks.

Without an OS noted, I have to guess.

And badly too.

Now that we kwow's XP, it should be OK, but there are instances in Word that you need to find and delete the NORMAL.DOT file to cure a Word issue.

In XP, you should let it manage the paging or "virtual memory" so it can keep going, but no mention of how much space is left on the Windows XP boot drive.

And pulling a stick of memory is a test. Try it if nothing else helps.

Ooops I missed it.

Since it's an Office 11 feature only, disregard my input and contact Corel for later versions and patches.

XP on 1G RAM and a few gig free hard disk should be fine.

One last guess? Run DISK CLEANUP. Try again.
