OSX Software install problem requiring Administrator passwor

Dec 3, 2007 8:58AM PST

I have a iMac g5. My system is 10.3.9. I am suddenly locked out of installing software. Here's what happened. During the install of Epson printer drivers, the dialog box required my password. I successfully entered that. Then surprisingly, another Vise dialog box popped up saying "The sofware to be installed requaires Administrator or higher level access privileges. I hit the OK button (had no choice) and no other box appeared for my type in a password.

I called Apple and they said insert the G5 install disk and rename my passswords. I did so for both the Administrator (root) and for my name which was contained in a pull down menu. I then rebooted and tried to install and the same problem occurred. I have no idea what to do next Please help.
