Question

OS X 10.5.8 upgrade needed

May 26, 2014 6:16AM PDT

Hello everyone!

I have a question that might not be the best to ask but either way I need it done.

I have a 7 year old white MacBook that is running Snow Leopard OS X 10.5.8. This version has become so out of date most applications don't accept it as a baseline anymore.

I wanted to upgrade to OS X 10.6.8 because that is the new baseline requirement for most applications, however I am a broke college student so anything over $5.00 is a major issue for me.

I know that version of Snow Leopard is sold on the apple website for about $20.00, but you really have to understand $20.00 for me is emergency gas money....

I have been looking around for a free download, but all of them say I need OS X 10.6 before I can install. I even downloaded OS X 10.6 that said I needed 10.6 for the install!

Does anyone have any advice before I drop money on my old laptop?

Thank you all for your time!

Apple does not give away its OS, although later updates were free, so you are stuck with the $20 upgrade fee.

Even for a "broke" student this should not be too much of a problem.

This forum is not the place to ask about "Free" (Stolen) software

Why do this?

I know folk that run MAC OS (the one without the X) and get along. They don't get much anything new but the machine does what they want and they ignore the new stuff.

If your machine is working, can you ignore the new shiny stuff?
