so when I install windows xp on my brothers laptop then restart it, and then its doesn't start up. sometimes its a missing file or just loading and doing nothing. its does this every time I repartition ,the hard drive has some bad blocks and sectors, but is there a way I can stop the os from screwing up? or just throw the hdd away

There's a lot of missing detail here. XP is very hard to install for most folk. Even harder when only this much is told.
