If you need an OS CD, you get an OS CD. I know there are web sites on how to create such but the days lost on such mean that its your choice and never mine to do that.
As to shutdowns. Since this is XP, try http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/ and set the speed to as low as it can go. Then scan with Grif's tools at http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6122_102-0.html?forumID=44&threadID=311989&messageID=2880351&tag=forums06;posts#2880351 ejecting all they find with the stock settings.
If it still shuts down, tell us about your yearly cleaning.
my pc began shuttin down for no apparent reason....so the first thing that came to mind was that it got a virus (i'm using bitdefender antivirus)....so i started to scan and it shut off again..so imediately i ran my installation cd and wen it reached half way d pc shut down again...n i am thinkin d reason for tha constant shuttin down is overheating...but thats not my major problem....i left tha comp off for a couple hours and started to re-insall the cd again (windows xp professional sp2) and now it tells me that it cannot load bootvid.dll and someother files such as c_437.nls,vgaoem.fon,wmilib.sys among others so now i have no operating system on the pc and it doesnt want to install...does anyone know what i can do to re-install an os r what procedures i should follow i gots all the resources so that i can do it myself i jus need to know what to do (i am currently on a lappy) i also installed a brand new 1gb ram installed a couple days ago..but i dubt that is the problem cause the pc was working good till now...i recently stumbled upon an i386 folder on this dell lappy i'm usin and it has all the mention files in it...if i put them on a bootable dvd will it load?..thanks
