Jul 7, 2014 3:29PM PDT

Hi,
I have a dell Vostro 1520 with an Intel Core 2 duo processor 2.2 gHz @,
It currently runs windows 7 Ultimate SP1,
The OS is a bit slow, not very faast as I want it to be, please recommend an OS I can install to bring me full speed..

Here I didn't notice any speedup no matter which OS ran.

That is, to transcode a video took about the same time in Linux or Windows. But let's try this. Did you try a faster HDD or try a SSDD?

It already is

It already is. Your CPU basically is running at full speed all the time, so short of replacing it with a faster one (and you'd be very limited by having a brand name computer) you are left with either adding more RAM and/or reducing the number of running programs. You can also go through and try to get rid of any "heavy" programs like say Norton or McAfee's security suites for example. You could replace it with a lighter weight AV program like say Avast or NOD32 and then just use the Windows firewall which is more than enough protection for the average user. That reduces the amount of time your CPU has to spend on maintenance type tasks and frees up time to work on things you want it to do.

However, do keep in mind that the best case scenario here is that you might get a 10-15% performance boost by doing some of these things. You are still limited by the hardware in the end and eventually you'll just need to get a new computer.

BitLocker turned on for the whole disk? Is that why you are using Ultimate?
