There is a second method of receiving the security updates as well as other drivers, and windows updates which this disk you mentioned may not include. Proceed to the windows update site, personalize it, then go into windows catalog, which will provide all the updates I mentioned in sections, which you can directly download to your hard drive, (I have done this, and then created a Main directory for the files (ex: Win98 Updates, W2K Updates, WinXP Updates), then using a CDRW drive, you can drag and drop the entire directory and files to it, and have everything you need should your system crash, you can resetup your security patches and drivers offline.

I would guess you are on broadband- take a look at the current Eweek, and you'll find out what a nightmare windows update is for dialup users.

If you are limited to dialup internet connection speeds, go directly to order the cd, do not pass go, or you may be bored to death waiting for 30+ meg chunks to download!

Hmm...I ordered one a while back, but I haven't got it yet, maybe I'll go back and try again.

Dan S, you are welcome.

JenDScot, on my old Win98 I don't have a CDRW. Thanks for the info.

Gee William, watch for sales. I purchase a new in box retail Internal CD-RW 52X-32X-52X burner from Office Max a couple weeks ago for $9.95 after store discount and mail in rebate. My PC's already have a burner, so this one is sitting around waiting for one to fail.

Thank you both very much. In case of a crash the win98se won't be much good without all the patches. Yes I have a backup! But one never knows?????
