If we have downloaded all security updates to this point do we need the C.D. ? Ann

Same here. All updates are installed and I have my own backups of each update (downloaded manually) just in case I need to reformat my system.

This free security CD from Microsoft will serve as another backup copy of security updates.

Hi Marianna,

Any idea why Microsoft do not have the United Kingdom in the drop down box for countries outside the US and Canada?

Do you think we have offended Mr. Gates in some way or is the UK considered as 'secure'? (I wish!!!)

I am NOT living in the USA - but my feeling is, everything is possible in the US even adding another star Devil Wow, then they would even have REAL royalty :^O

In case your country is not listed, try visiting http://www.microsoft.com/worldwide/ under website, select your country in the list to view the Microsoft website in your region or country. Scroll the page to find a link to Security then look for information on how to order your free Windows Security Update CD.

Question regarding CD?
Feb 18, 2004 12:17AM PST

This CD doesn't automatically start to install these updates does it? In other words does it give us the choice as to what we want installed or would it automatically start installing this stuff after we put it in?

Re:Question regarding CD?
Feb 18, 2004 8:08AM PST

It shouldn't do. It will likely be like the Windows CD, providing the option to do a Custom install. This said, since the CD will specifically have security updates, you would probably want most if not all of them.

This looks very much like a little Microsoft sales promotion going on here. Requires cookies and wants loads of personal information... no thanks I just passed.

Sad

Gee Glenn, can give them a "throw away" email addy, close but not accurate name for your snail mail, and maybe miss your telephone listing by one/two numbers.
Cookies for you would not be a problem if you didn't discard your Norton Systems Works...under Utilities...I eliminate selective cookies maybe four or five times a day Wink

I have all the updates, but ordered the CD anyway to make it easier if I have to format my WinXP, Win98se or WinME computer.

John, Thanks and nice thought! Wink Suggestions are not beyond something I would do; however, the "close but not accurate" snail mail address will not work as the Post Office will return the disk to sender as incorrectly addressed. They don't even try to deliver it!

Sad

Oh, I meant the name, not the address....
Feb 18, 2004 10:04AM PST

as the address needs to be accurate. The P.O. around here will deliver mail addressed to Dorthy of Oz or Sam Spade, they don't know for sure who resides at your street address who may even be temporary.

If you have a legal copy of Windows don't they already have you personal information? Like name, ph number addy? So what is the big deal with giving it to them again?

- Collapse -
I have a legal copy
Feb 19, 2004 6:39PM PST

And Microsoft has no info on me. They'll get it only if you give it to them. No need to register, just activate.

British and Irish Republic should get it from here
Feb 18, 2004 8:05AM PST
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/security/protect/update.mspx

That is the official local site for the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. This is important, because this version of the CD is released only to UK and Republic of Ireland residents.

Also this site complies with European Data Protection laws, not the US Spammers' Charter. This means you are automatically excluded from all marketing, mailings and data sharing by default, unless you opt IN. Another tip for you, you can enter zeros for the phone number to protect your privacy, as I did earlier today.
