Question

Orange Screen with white lines Help please

May 6, 2017 9:01PM PDT

Hello all, i have a laptop that was never made to run windows 10 operating system. Its a Toshiba Satellite P770 i7... I brought it brand new around 5 years ago with windows 7 on it. When windows 10 came out for free it told me my computer was compatible so i downloaded and installed it. I had many problems at the start and had to get a computer tech to fix things. Anyway coming up to the present time, my computer will not install any windows 10 updates, it fails every single time i try to do the updates. So today i have tired to reset my laptop to windows 7, system image reset and everything else reset but everytime it comes up with an Orange screen with white lines running down it. Is my laptop ruined from windows 10? I can not seem to change it anyway i try to. I turned it off and it booted normally into windows 10 login page. So i am able to still use it at the moment. Please help me Sad

So far Windows has not broke hardware. If you restore the OS, it works unless there is a hardware issue or pilot error.

There are too many reasons for W10 to fail to install updates. From low disk space, malware to folk that tried that windows 10 privacy to the max article. I usually find the Windows 10 refresh to work and in heavily damaged systems the Windows 10 reset works.

I have tried every way to reset this laptop and this is what happens, an orange screen comes up and just sits there and does nothing.
Every time i try to do the windows update it takes an hour to get to 71%, then it turns black with a little white wheel going around, and stays like that for ages. So i hold the off button down to turn it off. Turn it back on and it says Attempting to recover installation, again a black screen with a white wheel turning for ages. Turn it off again, back on and it then says Restoring your previous version of windows. Then it boots back to login page ready to use, i sign in and it says update failed and says computer needs restart to do updates Sad

The only guaranteed way is to use the recovery discs that came with the laptop or that you made yourself when invited to do so at the first use of the laptop. That's what we call "back to factory conditions".

To reset Windows 10, use the "recovery drive" you made as advised in https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/instantanswers/3a747883-b706-43a5-a286-9e98f886d490/create-a-recovery-drive

For people (like you?) who forget to make those precautions, there's always the option to download Windows 10 disc or stick from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 and use that to refresh or reset https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12415/windows-10-recovery-options

If you tried all these (it's not really clear from your post what "every way" is), it's a hardware issue. Then it might be time for a new laptop if repair is too expensive.

Hello and thank you

I did not create disks when i first brought the laptop and also the laptop did not come with disks.
I have checked the Disk management on my laptop, there is Recovery image in it. Thats why i tried to reset to image, but it failed and went to a orange screen. I am trying to reset it to windows 7 home premium. As my computer isnt made to run windows 10, so downloading windows 10 disc isnt an option for me i dont think. Im sorry if this is confusing, i am not an expert at computers. I have tried to attach photos here but had no luck doing so. I have really had a lot of issues since taking this computer to win10, driver issues and graphics issues. I guess i would just like my old system back that had no issues at all. But it sounds and seems like that is impossible now..

Thank you again

Unfortunately, recovery media is not available for your SATELLITE P770. This issue has been logged, and Toshiba staff will investigate. It's possible it'll be fixed soon. You should try again here in a week or so.

I put my serial number and part number in and the above is what it says....
Guess this is going to be difficult

Hi Bob
May 7, 2017 5:51PM PDT

I do have a recovery partition on the hdd. I followed your link and read the instructions. I have already tried starting the computer holding the 0 button and it didnt work, it just took me to log in page... I have also tried F8 and F1 but to no avail.. Looks like i might have to try the links Kees suggested below.. Right now im backing up music to one drive which i didnt think of before, seems to be taking some time.. Also i think i may need dvd or a spare disc for Kees links which i cant buy until tomorrow. So right now there is no rush to do this.. Id really like to use the recovery partition on hdd but im not sure how i can access it other than the way i already have tried.. Appreciate the help Happy

Look in your manual and see what it has to say about accessing that partition.

Microsoft
May 7, 2017 7:05PM PDT

Hi Bob, just got off the phone to microsoft australia. As i have said, my computer was never made to run win10, and i was told where it said my computer was compatible it also said i should check the computer manufacture site to check it.. i never checked it, i just downloaded win10 and ran with it. Hence all my problems! After installing win10 there is a 30 day cool off period, after that time you can not reverse your computer to the previous version of windows it had on it at all, there is no way to take it back. So, microsoft is going to help me tomorrow, i have to buy a flash drive to download win7 onto and then re install it on my computer. So i thank you all for the help, fingers crossed my computer makes it through the re install Happy

Dell.

My 2006 Dell e1505 was never made to run W10 but it does anyway. I had no problems whatsoever along with dozens of PCs after that.

BUT at the office we know to update the BIOS and be clean as we can prior to the W10 upgrade and be ready to clean install and find drivers. Most folk can not do this.

Does that work if you have an oem license key?

Also I think you'll need to remove the (.) from the end of your link.
