Question

Optiplex 745 Mini-Tower Upgrades

Hi,
As the title says, I have the 745 MT, and and looking to make a few upgrades. Two things I am looking into: 1.An Intel E8500 CPU, and 2.A new GPU.

I am looking at two cards in particular:

Nvidia GT710

Nvidia GT730

Would this CPU be compatible with my 745? And how about those two graphics cards? Thanks for your time, and help much appreciated.

Regards

Answer
Cpu....no

Gpu....either should work.
The 730 would be the better pick.

Thanks Bob

Any reason in particular why that CPU won't work?

As per dell specs

The maximum cpu supported is the core 2 duo e-6700.

Why go through te trouble?

What's your reason. I don't think you will gain all that much.

I just...

I just want to get a boost in performance for my needs. I don't want a powerhouse gaming rig, I just want enough to maximize what I already have. The CPU and GPU will give me exactly that.

My advice.

Forget changing the CPU. Change the HDD to SSD (same price, more overall boost everywhere.)

Try to see if the 750 can be fitted. The one with DDR5.
