Optional updates for XP

In the optional updates there was a new one. KB887797. Can you tell me the reason to install this one? I couldn't find any info on it. Thanks!

If Windows Update

In reply to: KB887797

shows this as available when you scan for updates, then I'd recommend that you get it, regardless.

I agree

In reply to: If Windows Update

Windows Update will have scanned your PC and seen that you don't have this update. As it is for OE, which most people have on their system, I agree you should download and install it.

I agree also

I have XP SP2 also and Windows Update scanned and said I needed it too so I installed it. Also That update was NOT there earlier today because I checked SO it IS new. Unfortunately that KB article is ALSO not available at the moment LOL. Anyway, that update is in add/remove programs IF you checkmark the top of the window in add/remove programs that says "show updates" SO if Microsoft messed up and said we needed it and we actually didn't need it, we CAN remove it if necessary. Personally, I am leaving it there until I read the KB article.

Choose the "custom scan", not the "express scan". It SHOULD show up then on the left hand side where is says "Optional software updates".
