Alright. I've had an issue for years that I have long given up on troubleshooting myself, but on a whim I decided to post it on a forum to see if it might be a known issue with a fix.
My issue deals with internal optical drives and Windows 7. I have built 3 Windows 7 machines since Windows came out and all of them function fine when built, but I have a problem that has repeated on all 3 machines in that after a few months the Optical drives forget how to write and then a few months after that stop working altogether because they cannot tell if a disk is even in the drive. It is NOT hardware, because the drives still work fine under LINUX, but is clearly a Windows problem that even repairing or reinstalling Windows does not fix, and it only affects internal drives, as using external USB based drives is never affected and it only seems to affect optical drives (CD, DVD, Blueray, etc.).
