Optical Cables??

Dec 13, 2008 1:04PM PST

Hello, I just bought a Samsung Httz512 Home Theatre System to go with my Samsung LN46A630 HDTV. I have wired everything including the Monster HMDI cables from the reciever to the TV.

Are the Optical cables necessary to complete my hookup? I understand they are to go from my Dish Digital Box to my Home theatre reciever. Will this complete my wiring setup? The instuctions are a little confusing to me this being my first Home Theatre setup....

Is the optical cable necessary to make the Home Theatre work properly?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for your response....I do in fact have hdmi cables goin from the tv to the digital box and a hdmi cable goin from the tv to the samsung home theatre....no sound...I've checked all wires and they are intact properly as best as I can tell. Any suggestions? Settings? etc.??

This statement was posted here earlier by "Samsung". "To use the Anynet+ feature(which my system has, the TV and the home theatre must be connected with an HDMI cable. With a home theatre, a digital optical wire is also required for proper setup."

Anynet

jelmo55,

Actually, the Anynet (HDMI-CEC) features are available, and the optical cable is part of that setup network.

However, to just use all of your products without Anynet, you don't need the optical cable. They will work just as good, but the interoperability for each piece of equipment means that you can't control it all from one remote control.
