Optical cable will not stay plugged in?

by trumanator / November 23, 2013 3:23 AM PST

Yesterday I purchase a Samsung HW-FM55C/ZA Soundbar and all works well except the optical cable has to held at both ends to connect? I wrote Costco and Samsung and bought another cable on Amazon.

My Sony TV only used one HDMI input at a time so I could not use that to connect the sound or am I missing a trick? - Regards TTL

Very unusual.

"Cheap ones have a circular end and go in easily but tend to fall out almost as easily. Better ones have a rounded off square ends which must be matched to the socket. They only go in when correctly orientated. Make sure you have them the right way round using a magnifying glass if necessary and push them in firmly. They can be quite tight. "

Hi trumanator,

Bob is correct that the connection can be tight. Also make sure you have removed the plastic cover from the tip of the optical cable as I have seen this prevent a connection before.

This was helpful. I usually never have problems hooking up my TV/Home theater, but with the ROKU, I had no way to get the sound through an older Bose Home Theater System (pre-HDMI). I had tried the optical cable several times but it always felt like it did not plug in all the way. It was the little clear rubber caps on the end of the cable the whole time.

Now everything is HDMI into the TV and the TV sound is output to the Home theater with the one optical cable.
