General discussion

Opinions on Fujitsu's

Nov 20, 2005 6:57AM PST

Hello,

I am looking to buy my first laptop (not a desktop replacement, but preferably a light and portable notebook) and was wondering if anyone had any experience (good or bad) with Fujitsu notebooks. After doing some research, I think I'm going to get the Fujitsu S7020, so any and all input would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Futjitsu ...

For me, the best brand on the market for a laptop is Dell - Toshiba or HP. The others do not inspire confidence to me. There is perhaps ACER, but we fall into bottom ranges automatically by losing from sight the HP - Dell or Toshiba...

Fujitsus have maybe the best dislays in the market

They are more expensive than HP/Dell/Toshiba but have very good build quality. Most of the lines don't have the highest end GPUs, but still are sufficient for all but the serious gamers. Good looking machines too. If you ahve a small business they often run a 10% off on your first computer purchase deal...I think it's simpley self reporting on the small business status...

About the screens...

I have the option between the Crystal View and the SXGA which is matte. I think I like the brightness and crispness of the glossy screens (which I heard Fujitsu was known for?) but on the flipside, glossy screens are bad if you use the notebook in brightly lit areas.

Do you (or anyone else that reads this) have any feedback about glossy vs. matte aside from it being purely personal preference?

Since I've never owned a laptop before, I never realized all the subtle differences like this.

I like glossy screens, but

You're correct, they have a problem in bright sunlight. Even under direct lighting indoors one must pay attention to the direction light is coming from; however, it works for me. Two things happen, you learn how to position the machine relitive to light sourses and the mind learns to disregard reflected images. The plus isde is that colors are bright and vivid and images are clean and crisp.

I like XGA and I would not want a SXGA display; the images would be too small for me. My Dv4000 has a 15.4 widescreen, it's actually a WXGA (I know I'm touting Fujitsu, but the Dv4000 had everything I wanted and, being a Scot, for me it's all about the value) and there is plenty of screen real estate...I can open and work with a couple of windows side by side. This configuration is excellent for multi media as well. DVD's run in wide screen and look great.

Good luck with what ever you choose.

Perfect!

Thank you so much for all of your helpful feedback. Happy I definitely feel more comfortable going with a Fujitsu and now I know which type of screen to go for. I think I will stick with the Crystal View since I like the "crisper" look.

Have a great week!

no problems with the screen

Hi, I currently a fujitsu s series notebook and the screen is so beautiful. no need to worry about the view in full sunlight because it is totally viewable in sunlight. it is a beautiful notebook, very elegant and perfect performance each time.
