Opinions of Maxent 42'' HDTV Plasma (MX-42XM11) at Best Buy

Jun 27, 2005 4:24AM PDT

This is one of those, ''it costs so much less than everything else, there must be something wrong with it '' dilemmas.

The features and picture look OK at first glance to me, but It is only ~$1,900 the price is great but I am wondering if the low price = low quality.

Anyone own, know or, or have experience with the Maxent 42'' HDTV Plasma MX-42XM11?

Thanks

I work at best buy and we actually try to keep settings at the factory settings. This is so there are no surprises when someone takes one home. We are NOT on commission so the price tag makes no difference to us.

Obviously, the Best Buy sales rep is just being a good company man. Like any decent sales rep he's going to try to "upsale" you. If he can get you for $5,000 why settle for $1,999?

Not on commission, but BB is big on sales revenue as a performance measure. And all good retailers teach their salespeople to lead with the best...

Maxent 42" Plasma

I'm concidering getting one of these from Best Buy and was hoping that some of you may tell me how you like the tv now that you've had it for a few days..I'm still worried about longevity and burn in. Why did you go with this plasma over a rear projection or LCD flat panel?
thanks

3 More Questions about MX-42X3
Aug 15, 2005 1:50PM PDT

I am also considering whether to buy the Maxent MX-42X3 from Best Buy. The $1999 price seems very reasonable for a 42' plasma + HDTV model.

I do have three questions:

1) Several posters in this thread raised the problem of ''black bars'' on the left and right hand portions of the non-HDTV channels. Is that problem really solved by using an S-video cable in the auxilluary port?

2) Will it be hard to hook-up a Playstation 2 into this TV?

3) If I do not mount the TV on the wall, how tall of a TV stand will I need to make the viewing compatible with a normal-sized sofa? I image a TV stand 25 inches high would be about right, but maybe I am wrong.

I would very much appreciate any feedback. This thread has already been very illuminating, and I hope someone can help me with these questions.

The way I look at it - By the time there is burn in - the latest and greatest at half the price will be available- why worry

I think that is the previous model. I am real happy with the Costco flavor - this is in comparison with the previous Sony Projection tv. Good price good picture
