Opinion wanted about Norton software products.

I am considering purchasing a Norton software product. I stopped using any Norton product back in the late win 95 or early win xp days. Their anti virus and tools programs at that time seemed to install themselves so deeply into your registry and OS that it typically doubled the execution time of most programs. The Norton utilities were resource hogs. They were almost impossible to uninstall without downloading special uninstall scripts from Norton. Have Norton products improved in their current products compared to their old producs?

i'll toss my 2 cents in.

like you, i find norton's products still too resource intensive and, more importantly, easy to screw up and often impossible to remove. i often work on other people's PCs, and find norton internet security the cause of many of their complaints. but i won't try to remove it because i've seen PC's become unworkable after uninstalling it.

norton 2009 is supposed to be much better. cnet review
