"Operation Timed Out When..."

Jun 10, 2005 4:55PM PDT

NOTE: I didn't know exactly where to put this, so move it if necessary! Wink

I am using FireFox. When attempting to access this site: http://www.swizec.com/, I recieve this error "Operation timed out when attempting to connect to..." etc. I could access it yesterday morning, but not the evening of yesterday or at all today. I pinged it and it said that I could access it. I also tried using IE and Opera, but still no luck. I am on a US Military base overseas in Korea. The person that owns the site is able to access it, but I cannot. Is there something that I can do? I have tried asking the owner, but everything he suggested didn't work.

Any help here is appreciated!

Thanks,
-Yaggles

More Info...
Jun 10, 2005 4:57PM PDT

No edit button? Well, whatever. I just wanted to let you know also that I am using WinXP Pro SP2 with FF, IE, and Opera as my browsers. I just did spybot, virus, and adaware scans and they didn't help much.

If you need any more information, just ask.

Is your computer the only one that can't access the site, with this error message? Or is the owners PC the only one who can (apparently not, because I can see it also).

It seems a very new site, but if you can ping it, your ISP's DNS apparently knows it. What happens if you put the ip-address ping return in your browsers address bar?

I'm afraid this is a problem with your ISP. But their tech help presumably will deny that. But phone them and let them try. It would help to convince them from your point of view if you could prove that you could access the site via another ISP.

Site moved/shut down
Jun 11, 2005 2:53AM PDT

Looks like the site either moved or was shut down. Either way, it's no longer on that server. There is nothing wrong with your computer, only the site itself. It's the internet, you know, things like this happen...

Shut Down?
Jun 11, 2005 8:17AM PDT

How would that happen? If the owner and Kees Bakker can get to the site, it can't be shut down.

It is a new site; he said he got the domain a week ago. But still. If I could access it two days ago (for me), then why can't I get to it yesterday or today?

Interesting...
Jun 11, 2005 8:29AM PDT

I just tried it again, and it says the site is under construction, and redirected me to a forum. The server is definately there though...

What kind of site was it?

Hmm...

Yes... the site is under construction; and yes there is a forum. It is mainly for phpBB Modifications and the development of a new type of forum system and such. I am DKing on those forums (i think).

It should work; I will try using the IP i get from pinging it to get there, but it mightnot work either. Sad

I'll reply with results.

Well... that was fast. Same error. *sigh* I don't know why it wont work.

At least you know the problem doesn't lie within your own computer. That's a good thing, right? ^_^

I hope... I don't know why it's this site and not others. And I also don't know why I could get to it but can't any more.

I guess my next thing to do is try to find anything that might be blocking it.

Update
Jun 12, 2005 4:41PM PDT

Now, the "Connection was refused when contacting swizec.com". It didn't time out any more... it was refused. I will ping it again in a second. Any more grand Ideas?

I still get the redirection to the forum and the message "Actual site coming soon."
