Lostnspc,

After following the previous instructions by "Slim" and cleaning out the computer of "malware", you may need to "repair" Internet Explorer 6. On Windows ME, open the Control Panel, double click on "Add/Remove Programs", then scroll down and you should find "Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Tools" as one of the listings. If it's there, then click once on it to highlight it, then click on the "Add/Remove" button. A window should pop up giving you the option to "Repair". Select the "Repair" box, then click "Next" or OK and let IE repair itself.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the suggestions Shady and Grif. Ran spybot
and repaired IE as suggested. Still have the same
problem. After running spybot i had a list back web lite
not really sure what's ok to delete.Details not very
specific as to the source but did indicate some kind
of adware.Should these be deleted also? Under internet
properties, general tab home page buttons still greyed
cannot make changes.

With Spybot, under a setting is the way to LOCK THE HOME PAGE. Your pleas for help are exactly what would happen if I locked the home page with Spybot.

Unlock your home page...

I have Spybot and have the same issue re: "Internet Options". However, I can't figure out how to Unlock Home Page in Spybot. Any suggestions? Thanks.

FIXED!!
Apr 26, 2004 7:41AM PDT

The easiest way to fix that problem (if you have Spybot S&D)is to go to "Immunize" and at the bottom of the page there are options to unlock IE. Make sure none are selected. That fixed the problem perfectly. Thanks.

Lostnspc, In Regards To Deleting Spyware...
Apr 25, 2004 10:36AM PDT

I delete ALL the spyware items that are identified by Spybot Search & Destroy. In this particular case, if you're running an HP/Compaq computer, or using certain camera, there may be a semi-legitimate file or two which was installed to allow for the advertising to be sent to you. Normally, this is safe to delete, and it's up to you... BUT...It would sure help if we knew the EXACT name of the files that were detected. BE AWARE, if you have "freeware' programs installed that are dependent on the spyware to run, they may cease to function. Still, it's better to be rid of spyware and find new freeware. Here are some links about "BackWeb Lite":

In addition to spybot, please download, install and run these two other free spyware removal programs. They should help also:

Ad-Aware 6 Spyware Removal Tool

CWShredder Hijack Removal Tool

HOpe this helps.
