All it is doing is overriding the built in cooling software and is not usually recommended.
Instead, install a copy of iStat menus.
This provides much more detail than the SMC software.
Second thing is to make sure that all the vents are clear on that iMac.
A can of compressed air will do that nicely. Make sure you do all of them, top and bottom.
44C is not overly hot and it depends on what portion of the iMac is at that temperature.
My iMac SEEMS to be running hotter than when it was new about a year and a half now. I have installed SMC fan control and can see what the temps are, and they seem to be higher than I recall them being. I sometimes take the fans up to 2800 RPM for a few minutes to bring the temps down. Anyone know what is the accepted norm? It is currently at 44C, but has hit 50C recently. Top left back corner was *really* hot. Any thoughts? Thanks!
