operating system not found

by bsquare60191 / December 17, 2004 12:04 AM PST

I have a sony vaio PCG-FX210 and when I start up I get "operating system not found" I have restored the defaults under the BIOS setup menu to no avail. I have managed to start my computer after several attempts, but will freeze up and I am forced to shut down and start over again with the error messages.

What can I do once I've gotten the computer on in order to restore the operating system?

Please help!
Thanks!

Then the laptop needs hardware repairs?

How old is this laptop?

The restore CDs should be fine if the hardware was in working order.

Look at www.notefix.com for an estimate and try the Laptop Forum if you want to get some other ideas about repairs.

Have you tried something like a KNOPPIX CD? Such a CD (found with www.google.com) is free and may let you use the machine even if the hard disk has failed.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
