Operating system not found

Nov 22, 2004 12:14PM PST

I try to boot up my pc and it gives me a msg operating system not found. If I restart the pc a couple of times it finally boots up. I've been in the bios and under hard drive it says none (sometimes). I've changed it to user instead of auto. I have also changed the cable. Same resuts. Any suggestions on what could be causing this to happen?

This happened to me too, and I went through the same gyrations. Turned out to be defective hard-drive which was deteriorating. If you can get a boot, BACK-UP EVERYTHING you want to save! Do not wait, do not pass GO, do not collect $100!! Do it now! I lost everything when the HD (Seagate) died. Compaq sent me new HD free
(warranty), but info is gone.
