Opera Ad Blocking

Feb 18, 2010 1:32AM PST

One thing about FireFox I liked was the add-on AdBlock Plus. I recently switched to Opera 10.50 beta and was wondering, Can I block ads in Opera and if so how? Thanks in advance!

To a degree...

ABP automatically identifies all blockable elements, auto-suggests rules to block similar ads, lets you write your own complex rules from scratch, and offers extensive lists developed by the community. Opera doesn't do that automatically. Instead, it gives you two options:

1.) Add sites (ex: http://ads.google.com/*) to a Blocked list, which blocks all content from the sites. (Semi-automatic by right-clicking on an element you wish to block.)

2.) Define and edit your user style sheet (a custom CSS file) manually to block specific classes, IDs, etc.

You can do the same things through those methods, but it's a lot more work to create and maintain block lists.

I did a search in the Opera Community and found AdSweep. Works as well as AdBlock Plus did.
