Openning PowerPoint Attachments in Outlook Express

by morph / August 23, 2007 2:51 PM PDT

Running:
XP Home 2.002
IE 7.0.5730.11
OE 6.00.2900.2180
Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2003

I can't open PowerPoint attachments in Outlook Express but have to send them to My Documents, where I can open them. What can I do to get them to open in Outlook Express?
Thank you

Please tell a little bit more

Like:
- what happens if you doubleclick on such an attachment?
- what happens if you doubleclick on the saved file in My Documents?
- File>Open works?
- in Config Panel>Folder Options>File Types, what program is set to open .ppt and .pps files?

Simply saying "can't" and "can" doesn't tell enough.

Thanks Kees,

- what happens if you doubleclick on such an attachment?
Most attachments in OE open when I doubleclick on them. In OE, when I doubleclick a .pps attachment, the following error message pops up:
This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel.

- what happens if you doubleclick on the saved file in My Documents?
The .pps saved file opens via PowerPoint Viewer.

- File>Open works?
Haven't tried this in OE, but in My Documents, the .pps file opens.

- in Config Panel>Folder Options>File Types, what program is set to open .ppt and .pps files?
Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2003
(Note: Viewer is installed, but Office is not.)

When I have more time tomorrow, will try File>Open in OE and also try tufenuf's solution and report back.

morph, Follow the instructions at the link below.

Unable to open .PPS attachments directly from Outlook Express?

The "Automated fix - Using the PPSFix utility" is painless.

Problem Solved

The File menu for the email having the PowerPoint attachment had no Open option. Rightclicking on the attachment link produced an Open option, but leftclicking on the Open option produced the aforementioned error message. So... I downloaded Tufenuf's recommended fix, followed the directions for the automated fix, and that has now solved my problem. Many thanks!

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
